Security threats may ban Chinese made mobile handsets
The Chinese mobile phones that thrive in the country with modern facilities and cheap rates might be heading for a total ban. The information ministry has decided to ban calling from such cheaper sets which do not ensure any safety measures. It might affect about the 1.5 crores of mobile handsets which are already sold in the country.There will not be an explicit ban on Chinese made phones. Rather, all the phones which do not have a proper International Mobile Equipement Identity (IMEI) can not be used for making or receiving calls.
It is the growing threat on security that has prompted the govt. to undertake such a move. This has become stronger under the recent attack by terrorist groups in the states
